Kitty: “Got a minute, Stevie?”
Stevie: “Sure, Kitty — you okay? You’ve been pretty distracted the past few weeks, ever since you returned from Japan.”
Kitty: “What do you do… when someone you respect and really cared for, a person you thought was closer to you than almost anyone in the whole world, even your parents… suddenly changes so completely that she seems like a total stranger?”
Stevie: “You mean Ororo?”
Kitty: “Uh-huh.”
Stevie: “It’s only a haircut, for goodness sakes, and a change of wardrobe — what’s so terrible about that?”
Kitty: “It’s more, Stevie, you don’t understand! She’s changed on the inside as well! The Ororo I knew isn’t there anymore!”
Ororo: “And what pray tell has taken her place…”
Kitty: “Ororo!!”
Ororo: “…a monster?”
Kitty: “Compared to what she once was… maybe so.”
Ororo: “Kitty…”
Kitty: “I gotta get dressed.”
Ororo: “I… will wait for you. ‘Monster’…”
Stevie: “Don’t let this worry you, Ororo. You’ve shaken the kid up some, she’s having a hard time adjusting. Be patient. She’ll get over it.”
Ororo: “That solves her problem. But the truly terrifying thing in all of this, Stevie… is that I fear she may well be right.”
